From January 1, 2025, pensioners in Tirana will travel for free on all urban lines of the capital.
The news was given by the mayor Erjon Veliaj, who announced that they are working to install electronic information boards for the route and schedules at every bus station.
In this way, the municipality of Tirana will subsidize public transport for all pensioners, who from January 1 of the coming year will travel for free by bus in the capital.
"Inflation, prices are a stress for pensioners and as the government is thinking about increasing pensions, the municipality will make its contribution, making the trip free", said Erion Veliaj, Mayor of Tirana.
He gave the good news while inspecting the service of Line number 2, which has renewed its fleet of buses. Veliaj also announced that the work has also started on the installation of information boards for travelers at each station.
"The new signs will be put up, according to a methodology that is also used in Paris, London, or New York; citizens will know exactly where the bus is and how they can connect to another line. At the moment we are working in 137 stations", explained the mayor.
The improvement of the service - the mayor emphasized further - will not affect the price of the ticket.
"There will be no price movement, even though inflation in the last 10 years has taken its toll and other prices have increased," he added.
The lines of Tirana have already been put on Google Maps, which also helps tourists to find public transport stations.
The entire transport system in Tirana will be called "Urbani" - announced Veliaj - adding that electric buses will soon be purchased.
