The literary activity of Ismail Kadare will be preserved in the Archives Directorate

The literary activity of the great writer Ismail Kadare will be preserved in a special pavilion of the General Directorate of Archives. Prime Minister Edi Rama gives the news. He says that Kadare's family members have handed over his entire collection for safekeeping, including manuscripts, sketches of ideas, manuscripts of unpublished works as well as initial drafts of his works.

"The family members of the great writer have handed over his entire literary collection, including manuscripts, sketches of ideas, manuscripts of unpublished works as well as initial drafts of his works, for preservation, administration, restoration and digitization," Rama wrote on social networks.

To deliver them to the General Directorate of Archives was the daughter of the great writer, Gresa Kadare.

"Ismail was approached by a lot of foreign institutions in Paris a few years ago, be it French, Sorbonne University, the Academy of France. They wanted to get all or part of the archives, of course with Ismail's opinion. A very interesting proposal came from Princeton University in New York. I could see that Ismail was hesitating, he was confused, something was stopping him and he did not give a clear answer. I told him later what you thought, in discussion between the two of us. What will be done with your archive, let's make a decision. I don't know what to do because I want the archive to return to Albania, but I don't know which institution to trust. He did not give a definite answer, but I subliminally decided to take the initiative to complete this trust by giving you total trust because it is very difficult for a serious institution to do such dirty things. I am very touched, I saw in your office the codices of Berat, which rest here. I am excited by the idea that Ismail's manuscripts will be in good company, next to the codices of Berat," she said.

Ismail Kadare died on July 1 at the age of 88 from a cardiac arrest. His works translated into 45 languages of the world made the Albanian language and literature known in the international arena. During his lifetime, Kadare was honored with many prestigious international awards and titles.

Many times he has been a candidate for the Nobel Prize, but although he never won, Kadare remains today the most famous Albanian writer in the world.
