Albania is one of the countries with a high consumption of industrially produced fats in food, directly affecting the increase in heart diseases.

According to the report of the World Health Organization, Albania is marked in red on the map, which shows the high level of their use in food, associating it with the high number of acute deaths from the heart.

More than 278,000 deaths each year globally are attributed precisely to the intake of industrially produced trans fat. Trans fats clog arteries, increasing the risk of heart attacks and death.

According to the WHO, it is already proven that a high intake of trans fats increases the risk of death from any cause by 34%, deaths from coronary heart disease by 28% and coronary heart disease by 21%.

The report, which refers to the year 2023, says that at the global level, including Albania, the objective for the elimination of trans fats from foods was not reached.

Trans fats, which are produced industrially by the partial hydrogenation of any liquid oil, are mainly found in fried foods, sweets and ready meals.
