Starting today, Albania officially bans the import of meat from Brazil. The National Food Authority announced a few days ago that this decision comes after the removal of this country from the EU's authorized list.
The decision to ban imports was made due to the failure to provide safety guarantees for the use of antibiotics and animal growth stimulants.
However, poultry and beef shipments with certificates issued before September 3 will continue to be accepted, even if they arrive after this date.
For more than 2 decades, Albania has been purchasing meat and its by-products from Brazil, making this country the top importer of this product.
According to calculations based on INSTAT data, a total of 23 thousand tons of meat worth 46.3 million euros were purchased from January to June, with 34.6% of these supplies coming from Brazil.
