The Minister of the Interior, Bledi Çuçi, said that Albania will not stop supporting the Mujahideen sheltered in Albania.
"We did not intend to break the agreement. If they stay and adhere to the agreement to stay for humanitarian purposes, we will protect them. The agreement will continue, but of course there should also be a reflection from them regarding the behavior of the Albanian institutions. Because with the actions they took today, they showed that they are not ready to implement the laws in Albania. We will certainly protect them, but we expect that they will also behave within the agreement that they themselves have accepted" , said the minister.
Asked what the mujahedin have done specifically, Çuçi said: "They have political activity, but this has certainly been the subject of ongoing discussions with them. But regarding this concrete issue, it is SPAK that must be pronounced".
Çuçi emphasized that there is no secret agreement between the Albanian government and Iran, as has been alluded to. Chuchi called this a malicious claim, giving two reasons why it is not true at all.
"It is a well-argued and unfounded claim, the first because the Albanian government is not the one that intervened in the MEK camp, but the Court and the second is clearly our regime towards Iran, last fall we broke diplomatic relations with this regime, the allusions are malicious", said Çuçi.
This reaction comes after SPAK issued an order for controls in the MEK camp, following suspicions of terrorism and cyber attacks. As a result, numerous forces of the State Police, including the RENEA forces, landed in the MEK camp in Manza, Durrës, where members of the Iranian opposition are sheltered.
