"You sentenced me to one sentence" - The request for release from

The Constitutional Court released the decision in which it dismissed the appeal of one of the robbers of 4.6 million euros at Rinas airport, who claimed that he was convicted because of the sentence: "What the hell, I knew."

This reaction of Saimir Çela was recorded during an environmental wiretap in the detention facilities on the day he was arrested.

By not passing it to the plenary session, the Appellate Court emphasizes that this conversation between Çela and the other arrestee, Renaldo Sulaj, shows that they knew the reason why they were handcuffed.

The Constitutional Court reminds Çela of 508 phone calls made at that time with the two accomplices in the 2019 robbery as evidence, while also reminding her of the confession of the repentant Alkond Bengasi, who explained that the criminal plan began during frequent meetings, the study of the movements of monetary remittances, the adaptation of cars where "tax investigation" was written, the finding of the means with which the emergency doors at the airport would be opened and the weapons of the group of robbers led by Admir Murati, killed during the pursuit.

In total, the courts have sentenced the robbers to 122 years in prison, while in addition to Saimir Çela, two brothers Klement and Eldi Çala have also appealed to the Constitutional Court. Meanwhile, in a separate trial, Talo Çela was also sentenced to 18 years in prison.

And as the battle continues, authorities still suspect that this robbery produced other events, including murder. (TCH)
