A 5-year-old child, who is suspected of being mistreated by his parents, underwent surgical intervention on his feet by specialist teams of Orthopedics and Plastic Surgery in Kosovo.
"After the intervention, the patient was transferred to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, where he is continuing treatment, supervision and further postoperative care," the announcement states, while no further details are provided due to the sensitivity of the case.
Two parents have been arrested and sentenced to a month in pre-trial detention. In addition to being suspected of mistreating their 5-year-old child, they are also suspected of malnutrition.
The Director of the Department for Social and Family Services Policy, Blerim Shabani, said that they are awaiting the preliminary report.
"The process of assessing the circumstances regarding the fulfillment of obligations regarding the management of the case in question has begun. I would not like to go into information that is of the type of conjecture, because this would create dilemmas for the public opinion, but we are also waiting for the chronological report and normally we are also waiting for the preliminary report from the inspection regarding the issues of handling the child's case."
The state is also dealing with the other 6 children of this family.
Shabani said that such cases belong exclusively to the municipalities to handle.
There are a total of 38 Social Work Centers in the Republic of Kosovo, with each municipality having one Social Work Center, which is managed directly by the municipality.
