A successful police operation in Castelldefels, Spain has led to the seizure of a significant amount of drugs worth over 500 thousand euros.

According to El Caso's reporting, the incident occurred on September 22, when civilian agents of the Mossos d'Esquadra and the Local Police, who work together in the urban crime unit, noticed some suspicious movements in the parking lot of a supermarket in the city center.

Officers, who had been monitoring the group for some time, saw several people approaching a van, transferring a suitcase from another vehicle. Before they could leave, the police intervened, stopping them and searching the van and the suitcase. Inside, 16 kilograms of a substance suspected to be cocaine, with a street value exceeding half a million euros, were found.

Arrest and seized evidence

During the operation, authorities also seized over 7,000 euros in cash, as well as a small amount in foreign currency, including around 200 euros in Albanian lek.

The three people involved, all Albanian citizens aged 20 to 46, were arrested on charges of drug trafficking.

On September 24, after appearing before the Gavà court, they were sent to prison.

Organized crime and its scope

According to El Caso, the fact that the detained persons were Albanians has raised the attention of experts.

Traditionally, Albanian traffickers are linked to large international cannabis trafficking networks, but for years there have been warnings that organized crime, domestic or imported, is expanding its activities towards more profitable and dangerous substances, such as cocaine.

The police operation is considered a significant blow, as it prevented the entry of half a million euros worth of drugs into the market. Further investigations will be carried out by the Investigation Unit of the Gavà police station, to discover the origin of the narcotics, their destination and the role of the three arrested in this trafficking network.
