The former Deputy Minister of the Environment, Ornela Çuçi, has tonight dispelled a myth regarding the cost of Tirana's incinerator. She said that the payment of 29 euros/ton for Tirana is the lowest in Europe. Even making a comparison within the country, Çuçi said that 54 euros/ton is spent in Korçë
Meanwhile, the cost of 29 euros per ton is calculated as the basis for the processes here, which are management, construction, and of course the return on investments is also included here.
Earlier, Çuçi said that the word incineration is misused in Albania. She emphasized that we are burning waste and getting energy
"I would like to explain to the whole community that the word incineration is misused in Albania, we do not have the incinerator as the last link of waste disposal, which is incineration, we have energy recovery plants which are the fourth link of recycling in total waste, then after that is the deposit, which is the landfill and the last link is this type of disposal called incineration. In Albania today there are no incinerators with the last link, we have recovery, they are energy recovery plants, they do an incineration but with energy recovery, they don't do incineration without bringing benefits to society. I have also brought it from the waste strategy. This is how all the countries of the European Union use it today, first prevention of this waste, reuse of this waste, recycling, recovery for energy and finally storage. So we are in the fourth link, not the sixth link, these are energy recovery plants and we are in compliance with all EU legislation to recover waste. From waste to energy, today Stockholm is heated by waste. This is energy recovery. This is the best solution of urban waste management", said Çuçi in Top Story.
