The former mayor of Durrës, Vangjush Dako, was escorted by police to the city's detention center today, after his health condition stabilized.

According to his lawyer, Dako will remain in prison for only 6 days, as his sentence ends on September 27.

He served most of his security sentence under house arrest.

Immediately after the decision issued by the Special Court of Appeal, Dako was admitted to the hospital due to health problems.

He was admitted to the Infectious Diseases ward, under the supervision of the Prison Police Force, due to cardiac arrhythmia, anxiety and a herniated disc.

The former mayor of Durrës was sentenced to 2 years and 8 months in prison on charges of abuse of office.
