Shocking details have been revealed by Italian media regarding the murder of Hayati Aroyo, a 62-year-old of Turkish-Italian origin, who was found charred on July 23 in an apartment in Sesto San Giovanni, Milan.
Aroyo was the brother-in-law of Huseyin Sarai, one of the most notorious bosses of the Turkish mafia, executed in 2005 in Crotone. However, according to investigators, the latest crime is not related to the activities of the mafia clan, but to a personal motive: the fear that the victim might distribute an intimate video, allegedly involving a 36-year-old woman, whose origin has not been disclosed.
Italian police, under the direction of the Monza Prosecutor's Office, arrested three people: a 38-year-old man, his 36-year-old wife, and a 33-year-old Albanian. All three are accused of premeditated murder, robbery, arson, and destruction of a corpse.
According to investigators' reconstruction, the plan was cold and premeditated: the woman entered Aroyo's apartment first, leaving the door open for the Albanian. The latter entered and, according to the indictment, stabbed the victim about 30 times. Meanwhile, the 36-year-old's husband waited outside, acting as a guard.
The body was then placed on the bed, doused with bleach and set on fire to destroy evidence. The flames spread throughout the apartment, making the victim's identification only possible a few days later, thanks to fingerprints and the help of Turkish authorities.
Investigators also discovered that after the crime, the woman and her accomplices attempted to use Arroyo's credit cards at several gambling halls and other venues, leading investigators to the trail that led to the discovery of the incident. Money, a tablet and a cellphone were taken from the apartment, as it was suspected that the compromising video, which has not yet been found, could be stored there.
Everything is also confirmed by the conversations seized on the Albanian's phone, where the woman wrote to him about the crime with shocking coldness: "I was afraid I would feel no mercy, but I didn't. I was just watching to see if I would feel anything, but in vain, I felt nothing."
