Monsignor Arjan Dodaj, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Tirana-Durres, gave a speech today in front of Pope Francis.
Today, the Holy Father is on a historic visit to Marseille, where the Mediterranean Meetings are closing.
Faced with the immigration crisis that is shaking Europe after the arrival of thousands of immigrants on the Italian island of Lampedusa, the Pope called on Europe to raise awareness about this sensitive issue.
Emigration was also at the center of the speech delivered by Monsignor Arjan Dodaj in front of the Holy Father.
Dodaj shared how he himself grew up in a country where religious belief was forbidden by law and the only contact he had with God in a way was his grandparents who prayed in secret.
"My grandmother used to pray in front of a stable that I later discovered was a church... Even my grandfather used to pray secretly."
The Archbishop of Durrës and Tirana then tells how after the fall of communism he emigrated to Italy where he found his way to God.
In a speech that was accompanied by applause, Monsignor Arjan Dodaj emphasized, among other things, that together with immigrants comes not only suffering, but also hope and courage for a better life.
