"I have been raped, I have escaped death many times. He threatened me that if I fled to Albania he would come and kill my parents".

This is the testimony of the 22-year-old Albanian woman, who for two years had experienced the horror at the hands of her husband in Greece.

She was rescued after 2 years of torture inside the apartment where the 28-year-old kept her isolated from her neighbors in Greece. Thursday evening when the residents of the neighborhood mobilized to save her after hearing her screams.

The neighbors went to the couple's apartment, knocking on the doors, and also notified the police. The 28-year-old tried to go out the back door to escape, but the neighbors caught him and stopped him.

When the police entered the apartment, they found the young mother who had hugged her child and was covered in blood with bruises on her neck, after her husband had tried to strangle her. The ambulance was immediately called and the woman and the child were taken to the hospital.

She was forced into marriage by her parents at the age of 18 and moved with her partner from Albania to Volos, Greece in 2021, but the latter never allowed her to learn Greek, or have contact with people.

According to protothema.gr, the 28-year-old Albanian man raped his wife since the gender of their child became known, as he did not want a girl.

When the child was born, mother and baby lived for five months with closed shutters and no sunlight.

The violence against her was daily and the 28-year-old did not allow the mother to go to the doctor for the child's vaccination, nor to call the doctor at home.
