Two Albanians were arrested for spies on Sunday evening after they were caught moving inside the Salamis naval base, which is located in the northeastern part of the island of Salamis, about 16 kilometers west of Athens.
According to what Kathimerini writes, the Albanians, aged 67 and 63, were spotted by navy personnel who stopped them. According to Greek media sources, the two Albanians were obviously drunk.
The officers sent the two Albanians to the police department of Salamina, where they are being held. The charges they face are espionage and breaching the security of fortified bases.
The naval base of Salamis is the largest of the Hellenic Navy. Most of the Greek ships are located on this island, as well as its administration, training and support services. About 10,000 naval and civilian personnel are employed in this base.
