Albania and England have finalized an agreement yesterday evening for serving the remaining sentence in Albania of Albanian convicts in the island state.
A spokesman for the English Ministry of Justice confirmed to Tch journalist Muhamed Veliu that the agreement has been reached, which will carry forward the agreement of 2020, signed by the former Minister of Justice Etilda Gjonaj.
Tch learns that in this new agreement led by the Minister of Justice Ulsi Manja, it is provided in detail that the English side will pay according to the costs of Albania for each prisoner who will be accepted. Currently in English prisons, 1536 people are serving different sentences, among them 17 people convicted of murder.
The English and Albanian governments in the next few hours are expected to publish a joint statement on reaching this agreement, which is expected to be signed in London by Prime Ministers Sunak and Rama or the two Ministers of Justice Ulsi Manja and Alex Chalk next month.
In recent days, the Daily Telegraph and The Sun newspapers warned through two separate articles last week that this deal was nearing completion.
