An illegal Albanian immigrant has been sentenced to 10 months in prison after police discovered a cannabis farm built into a house in Gorleston, Norfolk.
Denis Kadiu , 22, was found hiding behind a false wall on the roof of the house, following a tip-off about illegal activities on Nelson Road.
During the raid, officers discovered 102 cannabis plants spread across four rooms, part of a sophisticated operation that included a hydroponic system, ventilation, lights and a grow tent. The mature plants were worth £250,000, and the structure was capable of producing multiple crops.
The court heard that Kadiu had no permanent residence and had previously admitted involvement in cannabis production. Judge Rupert Jones sentenced him to 10 months in prison, considering his immigration status, risk of deportation and lack of family ties in the UK as exceptional circumstances.
His lawyer, Rhys Higginson, stated that Kadiu had been recruited as a "gardener" to pay off a drug debt and support himself, adding that he did not fully understand the risks of getting involved in this activity.
This is the latest case of cannabis farms discovered in Great Yarmouth and Gorleston, where Albanian gangs have been involved in several major operations in recent years./edp24.co.uk
