The cause of the fire that broke out in the apartment in the new Maternity area, where a 6-month-old baby died as a result of asphyxiation, has been revealed. It is suspected that it was the candle flames that caused the fire first in the basement and then in the entire apartment.
It is learned that the elderly Janulla Lilaj had not paid for the electricity. While she was alone in the apartment with her grandson, the grandmother had lit the candle and placed it on the dresser.
The elderly woman fell asleep and the bedside table where the candle was placed caught fire and then spread throughout the apartment.
The elderly woman woke up and, when she saw the flames, went outside the apartment to ask for help and forgot her 6-month-old grandson inside.
Even the residents of the area confirm that about four hours before the incident, the elderly Janulla Lilaj had gone to buy candles in a store near her apartment, since there was no electricity, because they had cut it off.
