Pano Ruçi, the father of Denis Ruçi, the 22-year-old who lost his life in the tragic railway accident in Tempi, Greece, has been on a hunger strike since Monday in front of the Greek parliament, in Syntagma Square, in Athens.
According to Greek media, he is seeking permission to exhume his son's body, a request that was rejected by the Larissa Court of Appeal. This decision has prompted him to protest in an extreme manner in front of Greece's highest legislative institution.
He says he has serious doubts about the identity of the body that was handed over to him as his son, claiming that the Greek government has deceived him.
According to him, it is very likely that Denis Ruçi's body was completely burned during the accident, due to the powerful combustible materials, and that it is not in the grave where he rests.
"I don't want silence anymore. I want to exhume the body. I'm not convinced it's my son. I want to know the truth, even if it destroys me," he told Greek media.
The Ruçi family has been requesting transparency and DNA verification for two years, but claims to have received no official response.

Ruçi has started the strike in the area where the temporary memorial for the victims of the Tempi tragedy is located, opposite the Monument to the Unknown Soldier, where his son's name is also inscribed. He is carrying a placard and a banner, through which he demands justice and the right to rebury his son.
The Tempi tragedy occurred on February 28, 2023, at around 11:21 p.m. local time. The head-on collision between a passenger train coming from Athens to Thessaloniki and a freight train traveling from the north to Larissa claimed the lives of 57 people.
There were a total of 350 people on the passenger train, many of whom were injured. The victims' families have demanded justice for the incident. Since the accident, numerous protests have taken place across Greece.
