The leaders of a criminal group that trafficked drugs between Italy and Albania have been sentenced to prison.

It is about citizens Braniol Liço alias Branjol Liço alias Branjol Ago, Florid Vukaj, Lulëzim Selimi, Dhimitër Nina, Saimir Prenga, Gjergji Luli, Alfred Luli, Ilir Duro, Francesko Çeçi, Lorik Prengaj alias Fabio Prengaj and Gjergj Zefi.

Citizen Braniol Liço (alias Branjol Liço alias Branjol Ago) was sentenced to 4 years and 8 months in prison, after benefiting from a shortened trial. Citizen Lulzim Selimi was also sentenced to 4 years and 8 months in prison.

Notice:

1. The Special Prosecutor's Office against Corruption and Organized Crime submitted to the Court the request with the object: "Sending for trial the criminal case in charge of the defendants Braniol Liço alias Branjol Liço alias Branjol Ago, Florid Vukaj, Lulëzim Selimi, Dhimitër Nina, Saimir Prenga, Gjergji Luli, Alfred Luli, Ilir Duro, Francesko Çeçi, Lorik Prengaj alias Fabio Prengaj and Gjergj Zefi".

2. The trial of this case took place with the rules of summary trial. At the end of the trial, the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime with a panel composed of judges Rudina Palloj, Elsa Ulliri and Esmeralda Xhili, with decision No. 59, dated 16.10.2024 decided:

1. Based on Article 375 of the Penal Code, the change in the legal qualification of the criminal fact, the guilty plea of ​​the defendant Braniol Liço (alias Branjol Liço alias Branjol Ago) for committing the criminal offense "Production and sale of
narcotics", carried out in cooperation, provided by article 283, pg 2 of the Criminal Code and based on this provision his sentence of 7 (seven) years of imprisonment.

1.1 The not guilty declaration of the defendant Braniol Liço (alias Branjol Liço alias Branjol Ago), accused of committing the criminal offense "Structured criminal group", provided by article 333/a pg 1 of the Criminal Code, in reference to article
388, point 1, of the Criminal Code.

1.2 Pursuant to Article 406/1 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, the defendant Braniol Liço (alias Branjol Liço alias Branjol Ago) is reduced to 1/3 of the given sentence, being finally sentenced to 4 (four) years and 8 ( eight) months of imprisonment.

1.3 The calculation of the punishment starts from the date of implementation of the insurance measure determined in the framework of criminal proceedings no. 49/2019, and the prison sentence by the defendant Branjol Liço will be placed in a regular security prison, in reference to the provisions of Article 18, of Law no. 81/2020 "On the rights and treatment of prisoners and detainees".

3. Based on Article 375 of the Penal Code, the change in the legal qualification of the criminal fact, the guilty plea of ​​the defendant Lulzim Selimi , for committing the criminal offense "Production and sale of narcotics", carried out in cooperation, provided by article 283, page 2 of the Criminal Code and based on this provision his sentence of 7 (seven) years of imprisonment.

3.1 The not guilty declaration of the defendant Lulzim Selimi , accused of committing the criminal offense "Structured criminal group", provided by articles 333/a pg 2 of the Criminal Code, in reference to article 388, point 1, of the Criminal Code .

3.2 Pursuant to Article 406/1 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, the defendant Lulzim Selimi is reduced to 1/3 of the sentence given, being ultimately sentenced to 4 (four) years and 8 (eight) months of imprisonment.

3.3 The calculation of the punishment starts from the date of implementation of the insurance measure determined in the framework of criminal proceedings no. 49/2019, and the prison sentence by the defendant Lulzim Selimi will be in a regular security prison, in reference to the provisions of Article 18, of Law no. 81/2020 "On the rights and treatment of prisoners and detainees".

4.1 The not guilty declaration of the defendant Dhimitër Nina , accused of committing the criminal offense "Structured criminal group", provided by articles 333/a pg 2 of the Criminal Code, in reference to article 388, point 1 of the Criminal Code.

4.2 Pursuant to Article 406/1 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, the defendant Dhimitër Nina is reduced to 1/3 of the sentence given, being finally sentenced to 4 (four) years and 8 (eight) months of imprisonment.

4.3 The calculation of the punishment starts from the date of implementation of the insurance measure determined in the framework of criminal proceedings no. 49/2019, and the prison sentence by the defendant Dhimitër Nina will be placed in a regular security prison, referring to the provisions of Article 18, of Law no. 81/2020 "On the rights and treatment of those sentenced to imprisonment and pre-trial detainees"
