Interior Minister Ervin Hoxha has reacted regarding the approval of the Regulation for the election of police leaders.

Hoxha says that it is already guaranteed that the selection will be made on the basis of merit, integrity, professionalism and transparency, to ensure a more effective leadership and a more responsible Police.

He has also listed the criteria and skills needed to compete.

At today's meeting of the Government, the Decision on the Rules and Procedures for the Selection of State Police leaders was approved. This is an essential step, which comes in the implementation of the new law "On the State Police".

This act represents an important reform that improves the structure and transparency of the selection process of police leaders, at the central and local level, including the Deputy Director General, Department Directors, Directors of Local Directorates, as well as Heads of Police Stations.

For the first time, it is standardized through a competitive process, ensuring that selection is made on the basis of merit, integrity, professionalism and transparency, to ensure more effective leadership and a more accountable Police to our citizens.

The reform aims to strengthen public trust in the State Police, as the main institution for public security.

It also aims to increase its performance in guaranteeing public safety and fighting crime.

The selection of candidates will be based on clear criteria for management and organizational skills, with the objective of:

Creation of a regular and standardized process for the selection of managers;

Promoting transparency and objectivity;

Determination of strict criteria for the evaluation of candidates; Creation of commissions for evaluating applications and examining complaints;

Promotion of meritocracy and fair competition;

Guaranteeing the avoidance of conflict of interest and prevention of discrimination.

The Government and the Ministry of the Interior remain committed to continuing the deep reforms in the State Police, improving services and guaranteeing a higher security for all citizens.
