Internal security management at the Rinas airport has become a serious problem, due to the increase in cases of drug smuggling, undeclared financial amounts at the border and valuable items such as gold and silver.

The precedents of the last days that happened one after the other, with the passing of narcotics, have cast a shadow of doubt on the vigilance of the employees of the private company, which controls and monitors the security of the only international airport in Albania.

The police and other law-enforcement structures have launched an administrative investigation to find out the reasons why the system of physical control, scanners and sniffer dogs of the police structures is failing.

Sources told Ora News that the control system is monitored by cameras from all four sides. But surprisingly, recent cases of drug trafficking, gold, silver, and theft of money in suitcases have increased.

Although from time to time the staff who carry out the control have been caught in violation and the employees have been replaced with others, again the Albanian criminal groups have managed to penetrate through the airport of Rinas, passing from time to time quantities of drugs, gold and various financial amounts that are not declared at the border.

The investigation launched between the company's own structures, but also the Police Supervision Agency, aims to monitor the actions of the police officers who were on duty, in the shift when the two Turkish citizens passed with 31 kg of drugs.

From the verifications carried out up to this stage, Ora News has learned that Turkish citizens have been spotted by the scanner, which has displayed the red "Alert" signal. But surprisingly, the shift worker who verifies and administers the data collected by the scanner, has not taken any measures to prevent the passage of Turkish citizens.

Their backpacks were filled with hashish and the narcotic substance was detected, but the employee did not signal the police officers to exercise the physical control.

The employee was placed under administrative investigation while it is known that she is the sister-in-law of a prosecutor in Tirana and during the questioning she was excused with the argument that it was a human error and not intentional, that she did not alert the police after noticing the red signal on the scanner .

This situation has not yet been closed as the administrative investigation will most likely be transferred to a criminal investigation at the Tirana prosecutor's office.
