Two years have passed since September 19, 2022 , when the British Rebecca Gannon tragically lost her life in Saranda , while she was immersed in looking at an old ship.
As two years have passed since this event, her family was waiting for the Saranda prosecutor 's office to close the investigation and take the case to trial.
The Prosecutor's Office of Saranda says: On the part of the prosecutor of the case, the relevant decisions have been made to extend the investigation deadline based on Article 324 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
Regarding the request for a copy of the decisions on the extension of the investigation period, these documents cannot be made available to you due to investigative secrecy.
The Prosecutor's Office of Saranda also gives this explanation of what stage the investigations are at.
"Currently, the Prosecutor's Office is carrying out investigative actions within the framework of this criminal proceeding, specifically, it is awaiting the administration of the technical expertise act and at the end of the investigations I will dispose of the way of their conclusion, decision-making which will be notified to the parties ".
Joey Gannon, Rebecca's brother, in a statement for Top Channel, gave this comment about the postponement of the investigation for another 3 months by the Saranda prosecutor's office.
"It's really heartbreaking. We cannot understand why it is taking so long to come to a conclusion as to why my sister lost her life. This has created a complex situation not only for me but for our entire family in Great Britain. I am of the opinion that not enough has been done in the investigation of this case. "The postponement of the investigations makes us wonder if one day these investigations will really be completed and if other charges will be filed in addition to those filed against the person who was taken as a defendant," he said.
George Gannon, Rebecca's father, spends most of his time in Saranda looking for his daughter.
"Not only did I lose my sister Beccky two years ago, but as a family we also lost our father. The central figure of the family. He has moved to Albania to push things to get justice for our sister as soon as possible. We as a family are waiting for an answer. I, and all of us, find it impossible to understand why it is taking so long to do justice," he said.
So far, the prosecution of Saranda has brought two charges against Saimir Kushova, the owner of the diving company, for " violation of the rules of protection at work " and " illegal employment ".
He was released with the obligation to appear after a property guarantee in the amount of 1.5 million ALL and then it is unofficially known that he is under arrest in Greece for drug trafficking after breaking the bail granted by the Saranda court.
