After more than seven months since the event that shocked Italy and Albania, the suspected perpetrator of the murder of 22-year-old Ilaria Sula will face justice for the first time.

On Wednesday, in the Third Section of the Serious Crimes Court at the Rome Tribunal, the trial of Mark Antony Samson, the young Filipino man who has admitted to killing his Albanian ex-girlfriend, is expected to begin.

The gruesome incident took place at the end of March and shocked public opinion in both countries. According to investigations, the young woman was stabbed in the Samson family's apartment in Rome, and her body was then placed in a suitcase and abandoned in a rocky area on the outskirts of the Italian capital.

The prosecution accuses Samson of premeditated murder, with aggravating circumstances related to the romantic relationship with the victim, as well as concealing the body.

Meanwhile, Samson's mother will appear in court on November 28, accused of helping her son hide the body. She is being sought a two-year prison sentence, which will be reviewed at a preliminary hearing.

In tomorrow's session, the court is expected to consider the requests for admission of civil parties. In addition to the girl's family, represented by lawyer Giuseppe Sforza, a request to be included in the process has also been submitted by the "La Sapienza" University, where Ilaria studied, as well as several associations that protect victims of violence against women.

The 22-year-old's parents, Flamur and Gezimea Sula, have arrived in Rome with their lawyer to attend the first hearing. They have said that, despite the pain, the belief that justice will be done is the only consolation that keeps them strong. Other relatives who have traveled from Terni to attend the trial will also be present in the courtroom.

The first session will mark the beginning of a long and sensitive trial, where the last hours of Ilaria Sula's life will be reconstructed, a tragic story that has left deep traces in Italian and Albanian public opinion.
