4 different accidents in a stretch of 5 kilometers in Italy, one of them massive, while the other fatal, which cost the life of an Albanian.
At least 70 vehicles involved and dozens injured. This is the balance of the situation created the day before on the A22 highway, between Reggiolo and Capri.
The victim is Luçjan Marku , 43 years old, a resident of Torrile in Parma. The Albanian, who was driving a truck, died after colliding with another truck.
It all started just before 08:00 on Monday morning.
The highway covered by a fog that neighboring media described as a "wall", turned the road into a trap for drivers.
Officially, the authorities count 34 crashed cars, plus other vehicles that the drivers "resolved" among themselves in a friendly way.
In total, it is estimated that the number of cars involved in the mass accident and other chain accidents is over 70.
The accidents caused real chaos yesterday morning, forcing the authorities to close the highway between Capri and Nogarole Roça until 14:00.
The number of injured is also high. 17 people were sent by emergency vehicles, 2 of them in serious condition. Many others presented themselves at the emergency room, bringing the number of injured to around 30.
The first accident that happened in the morning, before 08:00, was caused by a truck transporting live cattle. The driver of the heavy vehicle lost control and ended up between two carriageways, near Budrione di Carpi.
For the vehicles coming from behind, whose visibility was limited due to the fog, overtaking was impossible, but also braking in time... As a result, the chain collision of cars, vans and other heavy tonnage vehicles took place here.
Dozens of ambulances went to the scene to help the injured, as well as police patrols. In this accident, several people were seriously injured, but fortunately, no lives were lost.
But it didn't stop there. Some time later, around 09:00, another collision occurred near Rolo. Similar to the first one, several tools were also included here, even of heavy tonnage. One person was taken by helicopter to the hospital in Bologna. He is in serious condition. Two others were also injured, but without life-threatening injuries.
At 09:55, in Rolo, the other collision also involved heavy tonnage vehicles. The injured in this case were two, who were sent to Capri's emergency room.
The worst of the accidents happened in Campogalliano, at a time when the fog had cleared but the chaos on the roads continued.
At 11:55 two trucks, one of which was driven by the Albanian Lučjan Marku, collided with each other. The driver of one of them was pulled out of the vehicle by the emergency services and intervened by helicopter from Bologna.
But the attempt to save him failed, the 43-year-old Albanian could not survive and tragically lost his life.
