Statistics and accounts from professionals who know the justice system from the inside reveal that ordinary citizens have to wait decades to receive justice. When the case is criminal, years often pass in cells. Often, without ever leaving alive...

Inside Story took a quick look at two of the most problematic courts in the country. The Tirana Court of Appeal is the "Achilles' Heel" of our justice system.

During our daily observation, we found lawyer Dulejman Karaj in front of the doors of the Court of Appeal. The latter told us about the case he was pursuing, typical of the failure of the justice system...

'I had a case with an Albanian family with a property division that in 2016 was closed in the first instance, of course with a victory. Our casual communication with lawyer Karaj at the Court was nothing more than his next unsuccessful attempt. In addition to the serious case he told us about the death of the parties awaiting trial, he says that many of his clients are pensioners who are waiting for their pension rights from the court. So, the bite...

'The issue of making inheritance certificates for the living must now be reopened. These phenomena that last 7, 8 or 10 years with delays have become commonplace. Citizens do not receive justice, citizens die waiting for justice. Property issues, wealth distribution, pension issues. People over 70 years old come to receive the right to pensions, they die without receiving them,' said lawyer Dulejman Karaj./Inside Story
