Giulia Stefa

A 24-year-old woman of Albanian origin has passed away in Italy, leaving behind a great pain for her family and relatives. She is Giulia Stefa, the daughter of a family originally from Durrës, who had grown up in Viareggio.

Giulia passed away in the early hours of October 5th after feeling unwell in the apartment she shared with her partner, Leonardo Zaia, in the Terminetto neighborhood of Viareggio. According to Italian media, the 24-year-old had difficulty breathing and her condition deteriorated within moments.

The partner immediately called the emergency services. When the ambulance and the Croce Verde ambulance arrived, the young woman had suffered a cardiac arrest. After resuscitation attempts at the apartment, she was urgently transported to the Noa hospital in Massa, but despite the efforts of the doctors, she could not survive.

Giulia's life changed four years ago, after a serious accident on the ski slopes in Abetone. While skiing, she collided with a pole and suffered several traumas, being transported in serious condition to the Cisanello hospital in Pisa.

"From that day on, things changed for her," says her sister, Aurora, who recounts that Giulia's health had been ups and downs. Due to the consequences of the accident, she had given up skiing, one of her passions, and had stopped working at the family paint company.

Giulia was born in 2002 in Pietrasanta and grew up in Viareggio, a city she considered her home. Her parents, Diana Kadushja and Kostandin Stefa, are originally from Durrës. She worked in the family business and, according to her family, was a loving, smiling girl and very attached to her people.

But one of the most touching testimonies after her passing comes from her older sister, Aurora, with whom Giulia had a very strong bond.

"You were my little sister, the darling of the house, the one with surprises, always able to think of others before yourself," Aurora writes in her dedication.

She remembers that Giulia was the person she grew up with and that the two still had many plans for the future. Among them was Aurora's wedding, which Giulia couldn't wait to organize and enjoy with her sister. She also couldn't wait to become an aunt.

"To me you were not just a sister. You were my partner, the person I grew up with, a part of my life and everything I am. We still had so much to live for together," Aurora wrote in her message.

In the end, the sister addresses Giulia with the words: "I will miss you every day of my life. I love you, my little sister. Forever, both of us."

The farewell ceremony for the 24-year-old will be held on October 7, at the church of Santa Rita in Campo d'Aviazione, in Viareggio. After the ceremony, Giulia will be laid to rest in the city cemetery.
