The situation in the protest taking place in Tirana has escalated this Wednesday afternoon, with clashes between protesters and law enforcement continuing with high intensity near the Prime Minister's Office building.

Trees within the perimeter of the Prime Minister's Office's protective fence have caught fire, while smoke and flames have spread in the area.

Protesters threw stones and Molotov cocktails at the building, while police and Republican Guard officers used tear gas to repel the crowd.

Protesters have damaged the building of the Presidency of the Assembly, while damage has also been reported earlier in the premises of the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Interior.

On the “Dëshmorët e Kombit” boulevard and on “Ismail Qemali” street, the situation remains tense. According to reports from the scene, protesters have damaged public property and attempted to create barricades with flower pots and concrete blocks. Meanwhile, fires have been reported in several locations.

The police have intervened with tear gas and water cannons, while special forces and the "Eagle" unit have positioned themselves near the institutions. Members of the Republic Guard have also thrown tear gas from the terrace of the Prime Minister's Office towards the protesters.
