The State Police has issued an official press release regarding the incident near the Democratic Party headquarters, where law enforcement used tear gas during actions to disperse protesters.
Through this statement, police authorities explained that the intervention came as a result of direct attacks with incendiary devices on officers by a group of protesters who tried to avoid identification and capture.
"Police services were attacked with Molotov cocktails by a group of violent and masked individuals, who, in order to escape pursuit and capture by the Police, entered the external premises of the headquarters of the political entity Democratic Party and continued the attack on Police officers," the official announcement states.
According to the police, the use of tear gas was an immediate reaction to the danger posed by the incendiary substance used by the protesters, emphasizing that "Police services responded to the Molotov cocktail attack by violent protesters with tear gas."
In conclusion of the reaction, the State Police rejected the claims raised by opposition representatives regarding the causes of the intervention, describing them as "untrue, deliberate and malicious, with the aim of hiding the truth."
