May 9 is the date proposed by the Social Democratic Party for local elections, in the meeting held today with President Bajram Begaj.

The PSD representative is the second official to meet with Begaj today, after the head of the Socialist Party parliamentary group, Taulant Balla.

The latter expressed his openness to holding local elections on any date, except May 2. It remains to be seen whether the Socialists will agree to Tom Doshi's May 9 date.

On the other hand, we recall that the opposition parties have refused to participate in these meetings. After the Democratic Party, the "Freedom Party" has also decided not to respond positively to the invitation of the head of state. Its representative, Tedi Blushi, declared that this political force will not become part of such a consultation process.

A few days ago, the leader of the DP parliamentary group, Gazment Bardhi, said that the president's invitation is like "political theater," emphasizing that the President should deal with concerns about guaranteeing free and fair elections.

The Head of State has begun consultations with representatives of political forces to discuss the date for the local elections.

According to the Electoral Code, elections must be held on a Sunday, within the period April 15-May 15, 2027. The deadline for the announcement of the date by President Bajram Begaj is November 6.
