A historic achievement, the women's Vllaznia advance to the Champions League groups for the first time. The Shkodra girls achieved their goal amid a drama at the end of the meeting that turned into a celebration.
The rival was Vorskla from Ukraine. Due to the war, both matches were played in Albania. The first meeting ended in 1-1, while today the last act was played to determine the team that would advance to the Champions League groups.
Vllaznia ended the first half at 1-0 thanks to Patterson's goal in the 33rd minute. But in the 84th minute, Vorsklan was awarded a penalty. The goalkeeper of Vllaznia managed to wait for the penalty and while he was in euphoria, he made a mistake in the corner kick just a few seconds later, giving the Ukrainians a draw.
But Gresa Berisha gave a real gem from a distance by stopping the ball at the end of the net, in the 89th minute. No hope for the opponents to restore the balance again, while Albania is also represented at high levels by a women's team.
Thus the girls from Shkodra rightfully celebrated an exemplary achievement, securing for the first time participation in the groups of the most important European competition, representing Albania in the best way.
The Shkodra girls will learn the names of the opposing clubs on October 3 with the draw that will be held in Nyon, while the competition starts on October 19.
