The terrifying video: Cristiano Ronaldo's last appearance
Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo is ending his career with the Portuguese national team, and he made this official with a sensational statement after the defeat to Spain. The Portuguese striker participated in six World Cups like no other, but did not win any.

Cristiano Ronaldo said he would not make hasty decisions about his future after Portugal's 1-0 defeat to Spain in what was his final World Cup match. The 41-year-old forward had announced the day before the 1/8 defeat that would be the last World Cup of his career.

Asked after the match about his future, he replied: "Yes, it was my last World Cup, but I will have time to think about the rest, to stay with my family, not to make hasty decisions and to move on with my life." The Portugal captain added: "This is football, this is the life of a footballer. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose and you have to move on."

Ronaldo stressed that he leaves the World Cup stage "with a clear conscience." "The truth is that the most important trophy I have won with the national team is the one in 2016 (the European Championship), which for me has the same weight as a World Cup, honestly. Therefore, I repeat, I leave with a clear conscience, giving the maximum of my capabilities. That's it. Tomorrow is a new day and life goes on."
