Lionel Messi gave some valuable advice to new Inter Miami team-mate David Ruiz before he went on to score in the League Cup.
Inter Miami lifted the League Cup on Saturday after defeating Nashville. A total of 22 penalties were taken before goalkeeper Elliot Panicco missed the decisive shot.
One of Inter Miami's penalties was scored by 19-year-old Honduran youngster David Ruiz, who scored just the club's second goal in a 4-1 win over the Philadelphia Union in the semifinals.
And he has revealed how he was eager to take advice from Messi - as well as the key piece of advice the Argentine gave him before scoring.
Speaking to reporters after lifting the League Cup, Ruiz explained: “ One thing Messi told me is to stay in position as much as possible .
"I want to run for every ball, look for space, but he has told me to stay in my position and the ball will come to me.
" I tried it and it worked for me. I was more patient ", Messi has perfected the art of walking around the field when his team is out of possession, trying to find space between the defenders./ El Heraldo
