Sensational turn in the fortunes of the Super League from Madrid. The Commercial Court of the Spanish capital has actually accepted A22Sports' appeal. As such the Super League can exist and the clubs that are still part of it cannot be sanctioned by UEFA and FIFA. "Otherwise - it was written in the decision - the principle of merit that informs the competition law would be violated".
Juventus, Real Madrid and Barcelona are the only clubs that advanced the project, in open conflict with UEFA.
Thus, in essence, it is possible to create an independent and alternative race to those of the current organization. As the three magistrates of the court wrote in the documents to which AS had access, "FIFA and UEFA cannot justify anti-competitive behavior as if they were the only custodians of certain European values. Above all, if this will serve as an excuse to support a monopoly from which the initiative of what aspires to be its competitor, the Super League, is excluded or hindered.
The decision therefore orders FIFA and UEFA to refrain from adopting any measure or action. Or even by issuing any statement (…) that directly or indirectly hinders the preparation or development of this tournament. The decision also prohibits football institutions from announcing or threatening any disciplinary or sanctioning measures against clubs, club directors and people and/or players participating in the preparation of the Super League.
