After securing qualification for the Champions League, the Old Lady must rebuild, starting with Antonio Conte and Giorgio Chiellini.
Not only from a footballing point of view, because a revolution will be needed, in addition to the bench, also for the black and white formation if the title is truly aimed at, but above all from a social point of view, because a strong club is seen from the foundations, and Juventus under the leadership of John Elkann, increasingly present in the decisions that matter, in addition to capital injections, wants to give the club a strong structure like in the times of nine consecutive titles.
Thus, while waiting for Antonio Conte to resolve the dilemmas and say "yes" again to his beloved Lady, the management organization chart - which had suffered a significant weakening in 2022, following the reorganization made necessary by the resignation of the previous president Andrea Agnelli and of the Board of Directors as a result of the judicial investigation by the Turin Prosecutor's Office - could be expanded again to increase powers and diversify roles.
The key figure will be Giorgio Chiellini, former symbol and now manager, who for a year has worked closely with the delegated administrator Maurizio Scanavino as responsible for the club's international and institutional relations, increasingly entering into the dynamics and mechanisms of black and white. He could be joined by a delegated administrator (Damien Comolli) and a sporting director (Matteo Tognozzi), with the position of Cristiano Giuntoli under observation.
Chiellini's power
Chiellini still has to grow and learn, to foresee an entry into the new Board of Directors and a future as president; in the meantime he is working with Elkann on the social reorganization, serving as a bridge between the sporting and managerial areas. The ownership would like to bring him a delegated administrator "alla Marotta", that is, with specifically footballing powers, the Frenchman Comolli, currently president of Toulouse.
Elkann and Comolli know each other in other ways (not football) and have already spoken to each other; his involvement would recreate a dualism already seen in the time of Agnelli, when Marotta was CEO of the sports area and Aldo Mazzia CEO of the financial one. Scanavino is Elkann's representation within Juventus, placed in the company by John to balance the finances (a goal achieved with the six-month balance sheet with a profit), but he is not a man on the field like Comolli would be, who has gone through all the stages, from player to observer to sports director and president.
Who is Tognozzi, the sporting director who could return to Juve?
To complete the structure, there could be a return: that of Matteo Tognozzi, former sporting director of Granada after 6 seasons spent at Juventus. Tognozzi was an observer for the youth sectors under Fabio Paratici and then became head of scouting under the successor of Federico Cherubini. Among his strikes in the transfer market are former Bianconeri Dean Huijsen and Matias Soulé, in addition to the current number ten, Kenan Yildiz.
Giuntoli in danger?
A "artistic" boy (his father Stefano, also an observer, was a trusted man of Luciano Spalletti), Matteo, according to the ownership plans, should return to work closely with Giuntoli, whose position remains uncertain despite reaching fourth place in the last moments. Everything will depend on Elkann, who is reflecting on him. The activity of the technical director is not considered completely satisfactory by the club's leaders: the reduction of the wage bill and the cutting of costs have allowed the achievement of the economic objective, but they have been put into question again by the dismissal of Thiago Motta, which forced the ownership to intervene immediately with 15 million euros to avoid affecting the share capital.
It is not ruled out, however, that Giuntoli will stay, also because he has a long contract (until 2028) and expensive (2 million per season). He could remain within a broader and more articulated structure that would allow him to focus especially on the transfer market.
Revolution after 5 seasons without a trophy
The new Juventus is being born from the hands of Elkann, who after 5 seasons without a title wants to return to the protagonist, with the supervision of former captain Chiellini. A structure that increasingly resembles the one created by Agnelli in the golden years of the second decade of the new millennium, when the Lady ruled in Italy and was among the biggest clubs in Europe. In that company there were, in addition to the two delegated administrators who shared the sporting (Marotta) and financial (Mazzia) powers, Paratici who was the sporting director, Cherubini who was his right-hand man, Nedved with the role of vice-president and a dense network of collaborators, observers and people from the youth sector. To become great again, reorganization is needed at all levels. In Turin, reconstruction works have begun, waiting for the technician Antonio Conte on the bench.
