A club with a heart of gold. That's how Chelsea can be described, as the London Blues have decided to donate part of the bonus won from the Club World Cup to the families of Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva, who died in a tragic car accident in Spain at the beginning of July.
According to The Athletic, the English club's players have decided to donate part of the money they received for winning the Cup to the families of the two Portuguese players.
The World Cup victory earned Chelsea around €100 million. Of this, €14 million went to the players, or €430,000 per player. The players themselves will donate a similar amount to the families of the two Portuguese players who tragically died on July 3 in Zamora.
The Premier League will pay tribute to the two players during the opening match of the season, which begins tomorrow with a minute's silence to be held at all pitches, while Liverpool will unveil a mosaic in their memory during tomorrow's match against Bournemouth.
The Reds have retired Jota's number 20 for the first time in their history from the first team, youth teams and women's team.
