Bruno Pizzul, the historic voice of Italian football, passes away
Bruno Pizzul

Bruno Pizzul, a historic voice of Italian sports journalism, died in a hospital in Gorizia. He would have turned 87 on Saturday.

He was the voice of the magical nights of the 1990 World Cup and the penalties in Pasadena four years later.

His "Robertobaggiooooo" entered everyone's hearts.

He commented on Italy's matches for 16 years, from 1986 to 2002, the last of which was Italy-Slovenia on 21 August 2002, a friendly played in Trieste and lost by the Azzurri 0-1.

Pizzul commented on the national team's matches in five World Cups, four European Championships and in all World Cup and European Championship qualifying matches.
