Messi unsure of World Cup participation: I don't want to be a burden for
Leo Messi

Leo Messi is still unclear whether he will be part of the 2026 World Cup or when he will retire from playing football.

The 38-year-old recently signed a contract extension with Inter Miami until 2028. By then, he will be in his 40s.

During an interview with Spanish newspaper "Sport", Messi explained that he and his family are also considering the possibility of a possible return to the Catalan capital.

"The moment I see that I'm not in physical shape, that I'm having difficulties on the field, or that I'm not enjoying it anymore, that will be the moment to end it. But for now I'm enjoying it, I feel good and I'll continue," he said.

The eight-time Ballon d'Or winner has previously hinted that he is unsure whether he will reach the 2026 World Cup, after a match that was considered a possible farewell in Buenos Aires this year.

"I don't want to be, so to speak, a burden. I want to feel good physically, to be sure that I can help and contribute to the group, to the team. I am aware that it is a World Cup, special, and that the World Cup is the biggest competition there is. So, I am excited, but I take it one day at a time ," he said.

Messi has lost four of his last seven matches with Argentina this year.

Meanwhile, this season with Inter Miami, he has managed to score 42 goals and provide 20 assists in 46 games.
