Jose Mourinho has once again been thrust into the spotlight, this time not for his results on the pitch, but for a hefty hotel bill he allegedly left Fenerbahçe after his departure.

According to Turkish media, the Portuguese coach has accumulated a cost of 36.5 million Turkish liras, around 750 thousand euros, for 16 months of hotel accommodation when he managed the club from Istanbul.

Mourinho was appointed Fenerbahçe coach in the summer of 2024, immediately after being fired by Roma, and from day one he decided not to rent an apartment, but to live in the luxurious Four Seasons Hotel on the Bosphorus. The hotel, built inside a former 19th-century Ottoman palace, offers a spa, modern gyms and indoor and outdoor pools, while according to staff, Mourinho had an unchanging food routine: chicken soup, Margherita pizza, ice cream and sparkling water.

Although the stay initially seemed temporary, it lasted throughout his adventure in Turkey. But the sporting results did not justify the investment: the Portuguese was fired after just six matches in the 2025–26 season, following a poor start that disappointed management and fans.

Now, at Fenerbahçe, it is unclear who will foot the huge hotel bill, the club or Mourinho himself. Ironically, the coach left with a compensation package of around 8.4 million euros, which makes the discussion even more heated.

This is not the first time Mourinho has racked up such a huge bill. During his time at Manchester United, he lived for 895 days at The Lowry Hotel, racking up another famous bill of £537,000.
