The 2025 Giro d'Italia started for the first time from Albania, with the stage that took place from Durrës to Tirana, on a 160-kilometer route.
The winner of this stage was announced as the Dane Mads Pedersen of Lidl-Trek, who triumphed in a spectacular sprint on the "Dëshmorët e Kombit" boulevard in Tirana, leaving behind his rivals with an explosion of strength in the final meters.
The Italian Busatto came in fourth place, while a frightening episode occurred with the Spanish cyclist Landa, who lost control on a curve and crashed into a lighting pole.
He immediately received medical help.
The first stage started from Durrës and ended in Tirana. After the first 65 kilometers of flat terrain, the cyclists faced the climb of Gracen before reaching Tirana, to then continue with the climb of Surrel, with a gradient of up to 13%.
The end was hard fought, but the Dane Pedersen emerged victorious.
The other two stages will take place in Tirana on May 10 and in Vlora on May 11.
