Football in Bulgaria could be embroiled in a new match-fixing scandal, following a revelation made live on television during the broadcast of the match.

A video that immediately went viral on social media shows what happened during the match between CSKA and Lokomotiv Sofia that ended 1-0 for the home team and was valid for the 27th day of the First League, the highest professional league of Bulgarian football.

The final whistle was overshadowed by what happened just before kick-off. As is often the case in all other matches in Europe and around the world, the television footage, just before kick-off, was paused for a few seconds in the VAR room. Here, what appeared before the fans' eyes was extremely disturbing, the VAR technician in the booth, who helps the referees select the images, was caught visiting a betting site on his smartphone.

The images show the two VAR and AVAR referees, Volen Chinkov and Stoyan Arsov, focused on the monitors, while to their left a third person, namely the operator who manages the images from a technical point of view, was holding a smartphone in his hands while visiting a popular betting site. The images certainly did not go unnoticed by fans who immediately flocked to social networks to express their disdain for what they saw. Even the operator himself, seeing himself in focus, was surprised.

He didn't realize that the cameras were framing the VAR room at the exact moment he was visiting the betting app on his phone. Some users on social media tried to zoom in on the image, but with no luck, unable to figure out which match the VAR operator was analyzing just before CSKA-Lokomotiv Sofia.
