Tyson Fury has revealed his wife suffered a miscarriage before he lost to Ukraine's Oleksandr Usyk in Saudi Arabia in May.
Fury told how his wife, Paris , was six months pregnant when she lost what would have been their eighth child on the eve of his fight with Usyk , which saw him lose his world heavyweight title WBC .
Fury said: " She was six months pregnant. It's not like a little miscarriage at first, you have to physically give birth to a stillborn child, by yourself, while your husband is in a foreign country. To go through that in itself is not a beautiful thing ."
Fury said his wife did not tell him about the abortion before the fight, but said he knew there was a problem when she said she could not attend the fight in Riyadh.
He said: “ I told my brother that she had lost the baby. She never told me she lost the baby, but I knew. When I returned, I received the inevitable confirmation that the child was no longer there, but she had kept it for herself .
Fury added: “ I couldn't be there for him at that moment. And this is difficult for me. I've been with my wife longer than I've been with her, so it's hard that I couldn't be there with her at that time ."
Fury insisted his wife's miscarriage had no bearing on his performance in the fight against Usyk, which he believes he won but was awarded to the Ukrainian by jury decision.
"This is not an excuse. I am a man of honor. I do what I have to do when I'm there," he said.
The rivals will meet again on December 21, but without the IBF title at stake as Usyk opted to relinquish it rather than make a mandatory defence.
Daniel Dubois is now the IBF champion and retained his title last month when he defeated Anthony Joshua at Wembley Stadium.
