Guardiola 'talks to the invisible man', how the English FA destroyed

The FA has released previously unseen footage of Pep Guardiola 'talking to no one' as fans are furious saying the 'greatest video of all time' has been 'ruined'

The mystery of Pep Guardiola talking to an empty chair has finally been solved. Fans joked he was talking to the 'ghost of Mikel Arteta' after a viral clip showed the Manchester City manager, now on his way out of the club, talking - seemingly to no one - during an FA Cup semi-final against Arsenal in 2020.

In the video footage, Pep was seen speaking urgently to the empty seat to his left. Bernardo Silva even humorously referred to the moment during his farewell party this week, asking: "Pep, everyone wants to know, who are you talking to here?"

Pep reacted with a smile, but fans still didn't have a clear answer, until the FA published a wide-angle view on social media.

With the camera zoomed in less, it becomes clear that Guardiola was discussing tactics with his assistants Rodolfo Borrell and Juanma Lillo, who were sitting a few chairs away.

But most fans would have preferred never to know the truth, as the original mystery was much more comical. One commented on the FA clip on X: “ They ruined one of the best videos of all time .” Another added: “ I thought I was the only one who thought the same thing.” A third said: “Do you even tell little kids that Santa doesn’t exist?” And a fourth wrote: “ Please keep it a secret.”

Guardiola's pitchside chatter had little impact on the day as Arsenal won 2-0. And although Pep often had the upper hand over his former assistant Arteta during their time as Premier League rivals, he came second in his farewell season, finishing seven points behind Arsenal in the title race. Arsenal can end the season on a high note and cement their status as a dominant side by winning the Champions League this Saturday.
