"Lusail" Stadium

The final match of the World Cup between Argentina and France will be held at the "Lusail" stadium. It is the largest of seven new stadiums that Qatar built specifically for the World Cup. Although the exact cost of this stadium is not known, Qatar has announced that the overall expenses for the World Cup have reached about 200 billion dollars.

The World Cup final between Argentina and France will be held on Sunday, December 18, at the "Lusail" stadium with a capacity of over 80,000 seats.

This will be the fifth time for Argentina to play in this stadium, while for France it will be the first time.

Some of the most unexpected events of the World Cup took place in this stadium, such as when Saudi Arabia beat Argentina 2-1. However, in this stadium the Argentines have celebrated victories over Mexico, the Netherlands and Croatia on their way to the final.

When Qatar applied to host the World Cup in 2010, it submitted a plan with 12 stadiums.

After the first three years of preparations, the number of stadiums was reduced to 8. Seven of them were newly built, and one was renovated.

FIFA accepted this change of the original project, as the Qatari footballers simply would not need so many stadiums.

The exact cost of Qatar's stadiums is not clear. The total expenditure on the projects related to the preparation of the World Cup is estimated to be around 200 billion dollars.

From these investments, Qatar benefited from seven new themed areas that take inspiration from local culture.

The stadiums were built by tens of thousands of migrant workers who were generally brought in from South Asia under working conditions that became the most debated topic of this World Cup.

It is not clear how many workers died or were injured during the projects, in part because Qatar did not collect data or investigate cases of deaths.

FIFA has shown a positive will to respond to calls for the creation of a compensation fund for the families of workers who lost their lives and those who were injured. Qatar's government has dismissed the calls as a publicity stunt, and pointed to efforts it has made to get workers back wages.

Lusail Stadium was designed by British studio Foster + Partners, and was built specifically for the World Cup.

Located 20 km from the center of Doha, this stadium hosted six preliminary group matches, and was subsequently selected to host the knockout matches and the final itself.

The oval shape of the stadium and its complex layout reflect decorative motifs found throughout the Arab world.

After the end of the World Cup, the organizers have said that "community spaces with schools, cafes, sports facilities and health clinics" will be built in the Lusail stadium.
