England's National Crime Agency is investigating a yellow card received by footballer Granit Xhaka in an Arsenal Premier League match against Leeds on 18 December, as there are allegations it is part of a betting scandal.

Although Xhaka played for Arsenal won 4-1, Xhaka was punished with a yellow card for game delay.

According to the Daily Mail, investigations into the case in question were initially launched by the English Football Federation on allegations that at one point a user bet on many of the 52,000 pounds xhaka would receive the yellow card in the last 10 minutes of the match and won £250k.

In the 86th minute of the match, Xhaka stood for about 20 seconds before the ball, failing to execute a free-kick and received a yellow card from judge Andre Merriner for a waste of time.

This was reported to the FA due to the large amount of money involved, while some sources have told Sportsmail that the sum was much greater than what is usually put with yellow cards.

Another strange aspect of the event was that the chances offered in the exchange of bets for Xhaka's punishment were higher in the last 10 minutes than before the start of the match.

The Daily Mail reports that the FA has not opened any investigation into Xhaka, but is taught that it has passed the information it has gathered to the National Crime Agency.
