The Director of the State Police, Skënder Hita, has appeared at a press conference, following the serious situation created in several cities in the country.

He said that the police have his support, while calling on protesters not to confuse the police's restraint with weakness.

Dear citizens!

For almost 72 hours, the capital has been facing a wave of violence, attacks, arson, and destruction of state institutions, public and private property, putting the lives and safety of citizens at risk.

In these events, 71 State Police employees have been injured so far while fulfilling their duty to protect public order and security, some of them with serious injuries.

I want to be very clear: The State Police guarantees the constitutional right of every citizen, student, or political force to protest peacefully. But protest cannot be a shield for violence, arson, robbery, and destruction of public and private property.

The State Police is not the property of any political party. It is an institution of the Republic, at the service of the law and citizens. Our mission is to protect life, property, institutions and public order, without discrimination.

I call on parents, teachers, and educators to not allow high school students and students to be used or involved in acts of organized violence.

Young people have the right to protest, demand and oppose, but no one should use them as a shield to attack institutions, burn and destroy citizens' property.

Their safety and future are the shared responsibility of the family, the school, and the state.

Behind the masks that lead the protest with an example of violence, are not students, but individuals recruited for the dark purposes of the real organizers of this protest, both at home and abroad.

The fact is that of all those detained on the first night of the violent protest, not one person was a student. While of those detained on the second night after the burning and massive looting, a very small number were students.

Dear employees of the State Police, today I want to give you a clear guarantee:

In this confrontation with violence, you have my full support as Director General and the institutional support of the Minister of Internal Affairs and the Albanian Government for any lawful action in fulfilling your duty.

Any attack on the blue uniform is an attack on the authority of the law and the state. Anyone who has used violence against police officers, damaged institutions, public and private property, will be identified and will face the law.

Every additional hour of service will be recognized and compensated according to the law. Your sacrifice deserves the full respect and support of the institutions.

I ask you for professionalism, self-restraint and determination. Do not be provoked, but do not retreat from fulfilling your duty! Our strength is the law and our authority stems from it.

In the meantime, I call on participants in the rallies to immediately distance themselves from masked and violent individuals and not to become part of acts of violence and destruction. Responsibility is individual and you will face the force of the law.

Stop violence against police officers, institutions, public and private property! Any act of violence endangers the lives and health of citizens, especially children and minors. The right to protest must be exercised peacefully and cannot be used as a justification for violence and destruction.

And for anyone who thinks they can impose their will through violence, the message is clear:

Do not confuse the restraint of the State Police with weakness!

The police will not back down in the face of violence. Institutions will be protected. Citizens will be protected. The law will be enforced with determination and without any exceptions.
