Parliament of Albania

The Assembly will hold a plenary session today, October 15, at 10:00, with a busy agenda, which includes four interpellations with the Ministers of Interior, Infrastructure and Energy, and Finance, the review of six draft laws, and the establishment of a Special Parliamentary Committee for the second phase of the Administrative-Territorial Reform.

The session is expected to take place in a tense political climate, following the violent protests of the previous day, when demonstrators attacked several state institutions, including the Prime Minister's Office, the Presidency of the Assembly, and several ministries.

The focus of the session will be the urgent interpellation requested by a group of Democratic Party deputies with the Minister of Interior, Ervin Demo, regarding the police response to the protesters. The request for the interpellation is dated July 27, when Besfort Lamallari was still in office.

The deputies will also hold two interpellations with the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Enea Karakaçi. The first, requested by deputy Ermal Pacaj, is related to the Milot-Balldre highway, while the second, requested by deputy Tedi Blushi, focuses on the floating thermal power plants "Tigri 1" and "Tigri 2" in Vlora.

Another interpellation is scheduled with the Minister of Finance, Petrit Malaj, at the request of MP Tedi Blushi, on fiscal measures aimed at reducing prices.

Also on the agenda is a draft decision to establish a Special Parliamentary Commission for the second phase of the Administrative-Territorial Reform. The commission will have the function of reviewing the competencies of municipalities, while the Democratic Party is expected to refuse to participate in it.

In addition to these issues, the Assembly will consider six draft laws related to the protection of the legal profession, cooperation on joint border controls with North Macedonia, payment services, prevention of money laundering and terrorist financing, copyright, as well as geographical indications for craft and industrial products.

The session will conclude with discussions on issues outside the agenda.
