Long driving experience has not exempted drivers from being involved in road accidents in Albania. On the contrary, drivers who have held a driving license for more than nine years constitute the category with the highest number of accidents caused during 2025.
According to the 2025 Road Safety Statistics report, published by the Institute of Statistics (Instat), this category of drivers has caused 677 accidents, or 49.2% of the total of 1,375 accidents registered in the country.
However, the number of accidents caused by drivers with over nine years of experience has decreased compared to 2024, when this category was responsible for 742 accidents. In 2023, the number of cases was 514.
Less experienced drivers rank next. Drivers with 0-3 years of driving experience caused 224 accidents in 2025, representing 16.3% of the total.
Meanwhile, drivers with 3-6 years of experience were responsible for 196 accidents, while those with 6-9 years of experience were responsible for 189 cases.
Another indicator is the number of accidents caused by people without a driving license. According to Instat, 67 such cases were registered in 2025, down from 85 in 2024.
The data also shows differences according to the age of the drivers.
The 25-34 age group recorded the highest number of accidents, with 331 cases, or 24.1% of the total.
However, this figure is lower than the 424 accidents recorded for the same age group in 2024.
Drivers aged 16-24 caused 281 accidents, while the 45-60 age group was responsible for 278 cases. Drivers aged 35-44 recorded 270 accidents, while those over 60 181 cases.
In total, the number of road accidents in Albania fell from 1,666 in 2024 to 1,375 in 2025, a contraction of about 17.5%.
However, the report highlights that the number of people killed in accidents increased by 14.3%, despite the decline in the overall number of accidents.
Statistics highlight that drivers with long experience and the 25-34 age group represent the majority of cases registered in the relevant categories.
