Political parties did not reach an agreement to implement electronic voting in Tirana for the May 11 elections, however, legal obligation has led the CEC to propose three variants that will require the signature of the regulatory commission.
The first variant proposes electronic voting and counting in 5 units of the capital and in Vora. These are units 1, 3, 5, 8 and 9, while the same process will also be followed in the areas of Bërxulli, Preza and Vora.
The second draft version contains the development of this process in units 2,3,5,9 and 10 in Tirana, while the Vora area remains the same.
The third variant does not only include Tirana but also the city of Durrës. The letter requests that electronic voting be carried out only in units 5 and 10, while in Durrës it should be included from region 1 to region 5. The Vora zone remains the same in the third variant.
In each voting center, two electronic voting and counting devices will be used in all cases.
The 5 members of the regulatory committee will be the ones who will have the final say on which of these drafts will be the winner, while a 4-1 majority vote is required.
Earlier, the CEC proposed the city of Durres to implement electronic voting, but all parties except the Democrats wanted Tirana. Due to the rejection by the DP, this process remained suspended, which has led to three variants for its inclusion in the parliamentary elections of May 11.
