The European Union Ambassador to Tirana, Silvio Gonzato, said that the task force set up by SPAK to monitor the May 11 elections is a welcome initiative by him to ensure free and fair elections.
"Vote buying and pressure on voters continues to be a problem in Albania. I welcome the initiative taken by key actors, such as the Central Election Commission, the General Prosecutor's Office, SPAK and the State Police, to coordinate their efforts ahead of the May 11 elections, to address potential electoral crimes, as a guarantee of confidence in these elections."
"And I'm looking forward to hearing more from these institutions regarding their initiative and coordination," Gonzato said at a meeting organized by civil society organizations.
"Misuse of administrative resources is another issue raised in various reports, as an issue that requires more attention to ensure a level playing field."
He made the statements at a joint roundtable on electoral crimes with the head of the Central Election Commission, Chief Prosecutor Olsian Çela, and other political exponents and beyond.
