The Constitutional Court decided this Thursday to transfer for consideration in a plenary session the opposition's request, which is related to the verification of the procedure for electing the People's Advocate and the constitutionality of the relevant decision of the Assembly.

"The Constitutional Court Panel decided to transfer the case for consideration in a plenary session based on the documents: Verification of the issue related to the eligibility and incompatibilities in the exercise of the functions of the Ombudsman, including the verification of the procedure for the election of citizen Endri Shabani to this position, as well as the finding as incompatible with the Constitution of Albania. 2. Abrogation of decision no. 111, dated 11.12.2025 "On the election of the Ombudsman", of the Assembly of Albania, as incompatible with the Constitution of Albania. 3. Suspension of decision no. 111, dated 11.12.2025 "On the election of the Ombudsman", of the Assembly of Albania, until a final decision is issued by the Constitutional Court ", states the decision published on the Court's website.

Endrit Shabani was elected Ombudsman in December of last year, with only a majority vote. In January, the Democratic Party filed a lawsuit with the Constitutional Court over the manner in which Shabani was elected.
